Motor boat, Motor boat goes so slow...

(Especially since it was only a one daddy power motor.)

We took the boys out on the lake this weekend.

I was a bit worried...

I had visions of boys screaming, boats capsizing, boys screaming, and me swimming after them freaking out, and boys screaming.

They, however, took to it like true fishermen to be. Daddy, is Psyched.

I want to do a lady bug art project

We had to stick around the house today to wait for the garage door repair man, so I needed something to do with the boys. We don't hang out at home very often, we are usually out and about and on the go, everyday. I decided it would be a good day to do an art project. Evan agreed and suggested a lady bug art project.

What a great idea! I cut up some egg cartons and had them paint them red, and then add black polka dots. ( I use that term loosely, as the dots were more like smears of paint)

Evan seems to be having fun!

Ryan was very precise. He covered almost the entire surface red, and then tried to do the same with the black.

He's very focused.

Evan too.

We added a pom pom for the head and pipe cleaners for the legs. I think they came out cute!

The boys really enjoyed it, and now these lady bugs are riding around in the seats of our airplanes.

Tomorrow, Ryan has requested a dinosaur art project. I'll be trying to figure out how to accomplish that one tonight instead of falling asleep.

Here comes the bride ring bearers

The boys were invited to be the ring bearers in the wedding of our friends Angie and Tom. I've been worrying about how this might play out for a while now. Things can be so unpredictable with kids, you know...Especially 3 three year old children participating in their first wedding.

All dressed up (Matching) we headed over to the wedding on Friday night. I was going to post a few pictures but the bride posted this video and it's much better than stills.

Take notice at how carefully they are carrying the ring pillows. (Kinda like a football)

Really, they were so sweet, they listened, they took direction well, they stayed clean until after the ceremony, (no small feat)and they really did what they were told! They made me (and dad) VERY PROUD.

Oh yeah, and they were just too cute for words!

The compassionate child

Tonight I was checking my e-mail in the office, while Scott and the boys were reading a few books in the living room. All of a sudden, I heard Evan burst into tears, sobbing. Scott rushed him to the kitchen sink since he was threatening to vomit and between sobs I heard. "I (sob) want (sob) my (sob) Mommy (sob, sob, sob)! Scott handed him over and he just crumbled into my arms crying. I calmed him down enough to make sure he was not going to throw up and carried him over to the couch to cuddle. While walking through the kitchen he was clearly trying to make himself feel better. He would gather all of the cheer he could without crying and say "Look, a plant!" (sob, sob, shudder) "Look the Fan! (shudder, sob, sob) Oh my god he was so pathetically sweet and adorable. He just kept trying to stop the tidal wave of tears.

We finally made it to the couch, his little tear filled eyes looked up at me and he said, "I ne-ee-d my Ringos" As I looked up to find them Ryan was already walking toward us with one Ringo in hand. I asked him if he could find the other two, and he quickly returned with them in hand. He looked at Evan and said "Don't cry Evan, its okay." and then to me "Mommy, why is Evan sad?" "Read Mommy" "Evan, do you want to read?" "Here's a book, Read Mommy, Read"

It took a couple of books and a lot of cuddling, and Evan finally stopped crying. We still don't know what set him off, other than he didn't nap well today, we had a tough dinner, so he might have been a little overly sensitive, overly tired. My poor baby. My little sweetness. I've never seen him like that before, just a pile of sadness. He's cried out of fear, or pain, or crankiness, but not like this, this was just sadness. It broke my heart. I hope I was able to make him a little happier with a little Mommy love. I can't stand to see my love cry like that. I know there will be many more times in his life when he is sad and crying, and I wont always be able to make him feel better with a book, a ringo and a hug.

What really struck me was the compassion shown by Ryan. I could hear him while I was in the kitchen asking why Evan was crying. "why, Daddy? Why is Evan crying?" The simple act of finding Ringo, without being asked, and bringing it to his brother. Just knowing, at this tender age, what to do to make his brother feel better. So, So, SWEET. So compassionate. Makes my heart swell with pride, my eyes fill with tears, my love deepen (if that is possible).

These boys.

Videos of cuteness

I gave the boys a couple of tambourines from the goody bags at their birthday party and much hilarity and marching ensued. This went on for at least 20 minutes.

We then moved on to riding our little airplanes like "skateboards".

And then, this final bit of cuteness. Music class "performances" for the Mommies. You can really hear Ryan clearly, and Evan, well I think he's trying to learn how to play the music on the piano.

These three clips make me smile. These boys make me smile, a lot.

Odd bedfellows

This is what Evan's bed looks like. I swear I don't know how he sleeps in that thing. There are 3 pillows, 6 blankets, including the "Lady Bug and Flower" blanket that we cannot sleep without. (top right)

Of course we must have the three Ringos. (L to R: Other Ringo, Soft Ringo and Ringo Ringo) Don't even try to go anywhere, or attempt sleeping without all three.
Little Beetle Friend. (new to the mix)

Lady Bug. (Another must have or all is lost. Which is a problem since its really no bigger than a half dollar.)

Lightning McQueen.

Football, Soccer Ball, Basketball and Lady Bug Ball.

A crab and a shark.

Three Sea Stars.

And Six flowers.

No wonder he won't even consider sleeping in a big boy bed...there might not be enough room for everyone!

Hello? Is there anybody in there?

I've been trying to figure out what to write about this week and I'm at a loss. It's not that there isn't anything going on, we are busy and things are as frantic as always, but, where has my voice gone?
